About
WHO WE ARE
Amateur and professional men and women having a common interest in fabricating from wood.
CIWW is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization first organized under the name Home Craftsmen Forum in 1948.
Our MISSION is the education of members and non-members in wood craftsmanship, and contribution to our community.
CONTRIBUTION TO OUR COMMUNITY
Members gather throughout the year in several shops to fabricate toys for distribution at end of year holidays. In 2011, twenty-three service agencies shared about 5,500 durable wooden toys made by our members.
The substantial majority of our toys are made by members retired from full time employment. Toy manufacture is not a condition of membership.
Some members make toys at home. Others join fellow members for socialization and toy manufacture in one of five shops located around the compass points from Indianapolis.
SKILL BUILDING
Advancing the skills of our members takes many forms.
Our monthly meetings include a question and answer and show and tell portions, where members may secure a club consensus on their specific questions and demonstrate their results.
Every meeting includes scheduled program. Recent topics include: wood burning, chain saw carving, decorative band saw boxes, wood carving scroll sawing, Norton abrasives, veneering, Miller dowels, finishing techniques, Bosch tools, Festool tools, efficient breaking-up sheet goods, pen turning.
Advancing skills also benefits from periodic field trips. Recent events include: twice annual club specific classes at Marc Adams Woodworking School in nearby Franklin, IN; Popular Woodworking magazine, Cincinnati; guided tour of !8th Century American Furniture at Indianapolis Museum of Art; Wood Mizer sawmills, Indianapolis; Frank Miller Lumber Co.
